How to Make It Happen

If you are on this page it is likely that you have already started the process for getting a Medical Alert Tattoo. If you still are not sure then we recommend you to read:

“What is a Medical Tattoo”

  1. Doing Your Research

If you have been thinking about getting a tattoo for medical alert purposes you probably already know what is you are planning on getting it for. Before you go ahead and get the tattoo done you are going to want to be 100 percent sure that is the route you want to take. Take as much time as you need now to research information on getting a tattoo and your medical condition. Getting any tattoo is a permanent decision. Ask yourself:

Do I really want to get a tattoo for medical alert purposes?

  2. Setting Your Design

With the research part done you are going to want to start planning out what you want the tattoo to like. Most important is how it communicates the right information to the people around you. If you are diabetic you may want to have the word ‘diabetic’ placed within the tattoo. If you have seizures you may want to communicate what you want others to do if you have just had a seizure.

The Medical Tattoo website has templates for you to use if you want. Feel free to edit and change these designs in any way that you want. It is your tattoo so make it your own! For these templates of medical alert tattoos go to: “Tattoo Templates”

If you are not sure what you want your tattoo to look like then it might be better for you to talk it over with the artist you have selected for the tattooing process. After speaking with them they could sketch up some designs for you. If this is the route you want to take you can move on to Step 3: Finding Your Artist.

  3. Finding Your Artist

Who you choose as your artist is just as important as the tattoo itself. This is the person who will make the tattoo a reality. You’ll want to check out different tattoo shops and speak with artists who work there. Find someone that you can trust to do the job. You will want to feel comfortable with this person.

Ask friends, family, co-workers, or anyone you know that has a tattoo what and who they would recommend. They may already have a shop or artist in mind. This could also relieve some of the stress of finding an great artist.

The artist you choose will have an effect on how the tattoo turns out and even possibly how you design it. We recommend you have patience during this process.

  4. Getting Your Tattoo

The time has come! You have done the research. You have a design of what you want the tattoo to be. You have an artist you can trust and feel comfortable with.

There is only one step left and that is actually getting the tattoo. You’ll create an appointment with your artist on a time and date when you want the tattoo to be done. Before you go to this appointment you will want to ask yourself the same question you started this whole process with:

Do I really want to get a tattoo for medical alert purposes?

If the answer is still yes, then you are ready to get your tattoo.
